Das Unternehmen VAG

More than 70 million people travel with the VAG's trams and buses every year. On average, that means 200,000 passengers a day who are saving the environment from exhaust emissions and traffic noise! This is an astounding number for a city with a population of 215,000. The VAG is one of the most successful local public transport companies in Germany.
The backbone of the network is based on four tram lines providing services every seven and a half minutes. Optimally coordinated with the tram service are 26 bus lines taking passengers from the most important interchange points to surrounding areas.
The trams and buses cover 3.1 and 4.1 million kilometres a year respectively. That's a total of 7.2 million kilometres -  18 times the distance from Earth to the Moon.
Even the highest point in Freiburg, the 1284m-high Schauinsland, is reachable with the VAG: with the Schauinslandbahn. With a length of 3.6 kilometres, this is Germany's longest aerial tramway. The 37 cabins glide to the upper terminus at a height of 1220m in approximately 20 minutes.
The VAG is one of 17 partners forming the Regio-Verkehrsverbund Freiburg (RVF).
